1/3 cup of warm water
1 tsp sugar
2 tsp of dry yeast
5 oz. of soft (room temperature) vegetable shortening
3 and ½ cups all purpose flour
2 and 1/2 tsp salt
Put milk and water into a glass/ceramic bowl, add sugar and microwave it for 30 seconds. Add yeast and let sit. In the mean time, mix flour with 2 tsp. of salt. Mix the milk mixture with the flour mixture and butter together and knead it into dough. Let rise for one hour. Roll out the dough int a circle and cut into four up to eight triangles. Starting at the longest side, roll the triangle into a croissant shape. Place on your cookie sheet that is either greased, or lined with a parchment paper. Let your rolls sit for about ½ hour in a warm area. Before baking brush with milk. Bake in the oven on 400F for about 10 minutes, then another 10 minutes on 375F.
Note: You can sprinkle with salt or poppy seed on top of your rolls. Also, you can substitute one table spoon of all purpose flour for one table spoon of rye flour. This recipe makes about 8 medium size rolls.
See the video, how to roll your rolls.

When do you put the 5 ounces of butter in this recipe ,please
ReplyDeleteoops - I made a little mistake. Add butter when you start mixing the entire mixture together. Also my rolls didn't rise much for the image. When I bake my rolls nowadays they are bigger and I do everything same as in the recipe.
